Founded in 2019, Yamato Magazine is a UK-based publication that celebrates Japanese culture, worldwide.

The magazine was created by author and copywriter Jamie Ryder. Growing up in Manchester, UK, Ryder wanted to bring Japanese culture to him by writing about it and spreading awareness across the UK and beyond. As a copywriter, he helps Japanese-inspired and hospitality brands increase sales and connect with their customers through the written word.

He’s also a Sake Sommelier Association certified sommelier and international kiki-sakeshi who educates people about Japanese drinks. Another hat he wears is as a fiction writer as the creator of Tales of the Frontier – a horror western world described as Red Dead Redemption meets The Witcher.

His first book, Japanese Fighting Heroes, will be released in early 2024.

  1. This is so fascinating. I love Japanese poetry and am excited to learn more about Japanese culture (and hope to learn how to write good haiku and other forms of poetry). Your blog looks like a hidden treasure chest I can’t wait to open. Thanks for what you are doing and for sharing your knowledge. Also, thanks for following my blog.

  2. It’s an extremely complex subject that’s tied to honour and the idea that it was a more noble death for samurai who’d committed treason against their masters and other crimes.
